So here they are, enjoy!
We want to tell you about a place
A place where kindness matters
Where you can see it on every face
And hear it in all the chatter
Where it is written and spoken and sung out loud
You can feel it too!
We want to tell you about a special place
This place is our school.
We love our school!
New Secondary School in Arborfield Area
Dear Parents and Carers,
As you will be aware, Wokingham Borough Council will be delivering a new secondary school in the south of the borough to open in September 2016. We are working with local parents to develop this school and would like all parents to have an opportunity to be involved. A Parent Reference Group has been established to guide the delivery of the school and it will next meet on Monday July 21.
Attached is a newsletter setting out the timescales and opportunities to be involved.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Time seems to be flying as we move towards 3 September; here are a few thoughts, requests and small but important pieces of information for you:
It was good to finally have the children in school, meeting each other and their teachers properly for the first time on 8 July. The morning went well and we were delighted with their response to their new environment. We are all looking forward to catching up every week during the summer holidays which should make the transition go smoothly in September. See website for details.
Thank you for signing-up to express your interest in extra-curricular clubs. We have a clear idea about the clubs you would like for your children and Jane Aust is now organising this for the Autumn term.
The booster classes will run on Tuesday and Thursday and we will announce details nearer to the beginning of term. As you know, these are additional to the normal school day and there will be some flexibility around the lessons and support offered. One of the first tasks for our teachers is to assess the needs of the children and then use these booster classes to provide this additional support. I realise it would be helpful if we could indicate the days your child could take advantage of this extra tuition and so the following should be helpful:
Tuesday 3.30 - 4.30 Children will be invited to attend from Year 1 and 2
Thursday 3.30 - 4.30 Children will be invited to attend from Reception
Your children decided on the name of their class during their recent visit. They were told about three significant people in the field of science, engineering and mathematics and the most popular person was chosen. This will always be the name of their class. In this way, the classes have a clear identity and character. I have heard that some of the children did very well to remember the names but to make sure, the following should help:
Emily Becket's class: NEWTON
Michelle Harris' class: SHARMAN
Sam Cracknell's class: ANNING
Fran Hurdle's class: ARCHIMEDES
The children will come to learn more about these people; why they were important, their time, the impact of their work and this picture should help to provide a context as we introduce them to other key people in the field of STEM over the coming years.
Please use the link on the school website to listen to the school song and help your child with the words - it's catchy!
Is there anybody with a connection to a printer or publisher? We need some rolls of paper (for drawing and writing). I am happy with paper up to 1m wide. It is a resource I have used endlessly with primary children - slightly damaged rolls, of no use for resale, can be used brilliantly by teachers to cover tables, or roll out on the floor for children to use. Please let me know if you can help.
The Funding Agreement
We are extremely pleased to announce that earlier this week the Parliamentary Under Secretary for Schools Lord Nash, approved the funding agreement for Evendons Primary School.
This is fantastic news for the school, and it was the last major milestone for us to pass in the process of creating our school.
Read more in the press release here.
YouTube and The School Song
We want to share some media clips with you all! The recent parent's open evening was filmed (by Kaz, thanks Kaz) and we have put the video up on YouTube.
You'll also find in YouTube that we have an Evendons Primary School Channel, so subscribe to it if you haven't already! We'll be adding content to the channel over the coming weeks and months.
And last, but not least, listen to the school song!
Bumper News Update!!
OK brace yourselves this is significant list of news items!
We start the ball rolling by highlighting a new section of the site where we are going to be hosting all the letters and correspondence that we send to parents and carers.
Next we take a look at free school meals applications and a new Q & A about meal times at Evendons Primary School in general;
- Free School Meals Application
- School Meals Q & A
Patrick has written a letter to all the parents about Pupil Premium and explaining a little more about free school meals. As he states in the letter it is important you inform us of your eligibility for Free School Meals regardless of the age of your child. This is because eligibility will attract pupil premium funding for the school.
And last but not least, we have created a new section of the site for Press Releases and Announcements.
We would really appreciate getting your feedback on travel to and from the school and the possiblilty of a 'walking bus' to help keep the children safe and reduce traffic at the school site.
In order to capture as many ideas and opinions as possible, and to see where every one will be walking, cycling, skooting or driving from we have put together two questionnaires. Your feedback and support would be invaluable;
- School Travel Questionnaire
- Walking Bus Questionnaire
We are looking forward to welcoming OFSTED to the school and I am expecting a telephone call anytime now. The inspection will look in detail at the following areas:
- Evendons Primary School's provision for the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils
- Welfare, health and safety of pupils
- Premises and accommodation
- The provision of information for parents and carers
We will keep you informed about this process and as soon as we are able, tell you the outcome of the inspection. I have not been told when this will happen so there may be some disruption to the planned home visits and I apologise in advance if this causes inconvenience.
School Grounds - Work Party Saturday 7th June
I can hardly believe it's workparty time again! I hope you will be able to come and support us again this Saturday as we continue our work in the grounds. We will be working between 9 and 12 and I would like to tackle the following jobs:
- Second layer to the woodland paths (we need lots of wheelbarrows and shovels please)
- Prune the brambles encroaching on the pathways
- General strimming around building and carpark
- Pruning of some of the shrubs near the main entrance
- Construction of the post and branch wall in the woods (I could do with a heavy bar to make pilot holes for my stakes)
- General tidying of the car park area and sports courts to keep on top of the leaves, moss and silt
NB. the grass is really long and we haven't settled on a workable programme yet. It seems too much for a garden mower but is there anybody that has access to a ride-on mower?
Thank you everyone - your help makes a real difference. We will be providing refreshments throughout the morning and if you would like to help with this I would be grateful.
All our key policy documents are now in place and availabe for you to view on the website here.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Patrick Pritchett as the first Headteacher of our school. When we started the recruitment campaign back in September, we were absolutely clear that the Headteacher appointment would be one of the most important decisions we would make for our school as the individual would be responsible for turning our vision and ethos into reality. We set out to recruit an exceptional Headteacher and we have achieved just that.
Patrick’s background as a trained engineer and in Education together with a proven track record as an existing Headteacher is a unique match for Evendons Primary School.
We are looking forward to working with Patrick over the coming months, and together, in the new year, we will begin the process of recruiting the teachers and teaching assistants that will ensure the school has a really successful team moving forward. Patrick will officially take up his new role at the beginning of the summer term in April 2014, which will allow time for the preparations of opening the new school in September 2014.
